In its fight against climate change and hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment, the EU in recent years has been encouraging the lighting industry to switch to more sustainable and more energy-efficient products. 
It has used the Single Lighting Regulation (SLR) and the Energy Labelling Regulation (ELR) to tackle inefficient light sources, and the RoHS Directive to tackle the use of mercury.


As a result, traditional fluorescent lamps may no longer be placed on the market from specific dates in 2023.

Traditional circular T9 fluorescent lamps are not affected by the EU ban. Nevertheless, LEDVANCE has decided to stop production and offer attractive energy-saving LED replacements instead.
