For the planet and for people: replacing conventional lighting with energy-efficient LED luminaires 

With approx. 30.000 employees in Denmark and Sweden, PostNord is the Nordic region's largest communications and logistics company. To do its part for the greater good of our planet, the company set itself the goal reducing its CO2 emissions by 40%. Many different projects have resulted from this ambitious strategy. One of them is the optimisation of lighting by changing from conventional to LED lighting, which is much more energy efficient. Starting in 2017, PostNord has been renovating one site after another, including the large packing centre in Broendby, Denmark. 

Fewer worries for facility managers 

In Broendby, PostNord replaced more than 1,200 traditional luminaires with LEDVANCE LED luminaires – in the warehouses, packing centre, offices, cafeteria, kitchen, and some of the outdoor lighting. The fact that the products have a service life of approximately 15 years (50,000 hours, B70/L50), a 5-year guarantee, and a very short delivery time are some of the reasons why the company chose LEDVANCE.  
Over the past few years, the lighting industry has seen a rapid transition from traditional technologies such as halogen to standardised LED luminaires with tightly integrated, non-interchangeable LED light sources. And their advantages go far beyond better energy efficiency: the quality is so good that most luminaires in a building will be replaced as a whole when it is refurbished or redesigned, long before their LEDs fail. This means that there is no longer a need to constantly replace small individual parts of the lighting system, as was previously the case. Installation processes only rarely take place, and facility managers at PostNord don’t need to worry any more about sensitive production machinery being damaged during the installation process. 

50% increase in light efficiency with the new LEDVANCE lighting solution 

Compared to the old system, the new LED luminaires provide twice the light output. This not only saves costs and energy but is also good news for the night shift staff, who appreciate the strong and natural light that the change has provided. The new luminaires use 50% less electricity and emit much less heat. As a result, there is no longer any need for the use of chillers for room cooling. All in all, the total energy consumption has been reduced by 25%. With an average lifespan of 15 years and a 5-year product guarantee, PostNord has gained many benefits from using LEDVANCE LED luminaires and expects to use the same solution again.
