The RoHS-Directive (2011/65/EU) restricts the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. The restrictions were imposed to preserve the environment, improve recycling possibilities and minimize the exposure of employees. All LEDVANCE products placed on the European market are in the scope of RoHS.
The relevant substances are lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium and the flame retardants polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE).
The following new substances have recently been added to Annex II of the RoHS Directive (2015/863/EU): Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), Butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP), Di butyl phthalate (DBP) und Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP). LEDVANCE will in cooperation with its suppliers phase out these new substances in time before the restrictions take effect on July 22nd 2019.
The use of some of the restricted substances is allowed as exemption if there is no reasonable alternative available for certain applications e.g. Mercury in discharge lamps. These exemptions are listed in Annex III and IV of the RoHS Directive.
RoHS conformity assessment is falling in the CE labelling scheme. LEDVANCE is following the harmonized standard EN50581:2012 (Technical Documentation) to ensure RoHS conformity of all relevant products.
