WE AT LEDVANCE GET SOME PERSONAL INSIGHTS

True guiding lights are working at LEDVANCE – entirely different talents and characters. Together, we make a really good team.

MARTHA DE LA TORRE MEET THE FINANCE HEAD IN GUAYAQUIL

My name is Martha de la Torre and I have been working at LEDVANCE for 13 years now. It was my first job during and after my college degree. Since then I have always worked in the Finance/Controlling department. I am currently responsible for Ecuador and Peru as a Finance Head.
I would say our Vintage products, as they are a combination of classic design with cutting-edge technology. They can transform any space into a warm and cozy place which you can share with your loved ones.
I look forward to keeping on learning via the challenges we have due to our dynamic market and being able to adapt to those changes as fast as possible to take LEDVANCE to the next level. I also want to contribute to a working environment in which we not only achieve our targets, but can all learn from one another. A working environment in which I can be a true leader for the group.
Health for my family and friends, which I believe is the biggest blessing we can have and something that you cannot buy with money.
Wisdom, to be a good parent and to raise my 6-year-old daughter in the best possible way.
Traveling to a different country each year to get to know and experience different cultures around the world.
I would say Julia Roberts. I believe she is a strong, independent but still sensitive woman. I would really love her to play me.
Spending time with my family and friends, especially with my daughter. Taking her out to play with friends or going to the movies. Going out for dinner and just having a fun time.

HELEN JEONG Meet the Product Manager for Smart Home Products in Garching, Germany

My name is Helen Jeong, I am from South Korea and a Product Manager for Smart Home Products in Garching, Germany.
Smart Plug and Smart Outdoor Plug are my best ever products developed. Firstly, because its function is so unique and simple to transfer to all conventional electric devices including light to the smart version. Secondly, I have succeeded in solving all the technical problems and unexpected quality issues. Lastly, they are top sellers among the Smart Portfolio, contributing over 40% out of total sales.
Smart lighting products are much more complex and consist of several factors compared to conventional light. The success of smart products is how quickly and smoothly we can solve unexpected and complex problems. It may sound funny, but every morning in the car I look forward to both facing new problems and solving them all. There is no problem I cannot solve.
  • To beat Philips Hue in the smart lighting market
  • To travel to Cuba for a few months to attend a Latin dance school
  • To open a local sales office in North Korea when the country opens the market
I would be excited to play the role of Scarlett, which was played by Vivian Leigh in the movie “Gone with the wind.” Scarlett inspires me with her ultimate self-esteem and immense desire for achievement. Especially her power of emotion and attitude to her life is really touching “After all, tomorrow is another day."
I feel most rewarded when I sit in the sauna sweating after spending weekends on mountain slopes skiing and snowboarding. Sore muscles all over the body after intensive sport activity give me the feeling of being alive.

DIETER LANG meet the R&D EXPERT HUMAN CENTRIC LIGHTING

My name is Dieter Lang, I will be 60 in a few weeks and I’m married with four adult sons. I joined LEDVANCE just a year ago. So when realizing that LEDVANCE is involved in this technological field, I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to contribute my HCL (Human Centric Lighting) expertise to lighting applications in daily practice. That’s why I decided to submit an unsolicited application for a position as Expert for Human Centric Lighting in R&D.
After my university graduation with a degree in physics and computer sciences, I started my career in the research and development area of OSRAM in 1984. After 20 years in technology, including the development of the XENARC xenon headlight and the HCI Powerball ceramic lamps, I founded the Innovation Management department together with my line manager of that time. Our mission was to develop innovative ideas in a small team. Our many future-oriented initiatives included launching activities focusing on the biological effect of light. This topic fascinated me right away and still does today. I have been working in this field, which is now referred to as “Human Centric Lighting” (HCL), for 15 years now. In fact, at LEDVANCE I’m now able to realize what I couldn’t develop beyond the “research” stage in the past.
I can experience the progress that we are making first hand. Being convinced that Human Centric Lighting is a promising technology is one thing, but developing HCL products and launching them on the market – that’s something entirely different. I think it’s great that LEDVANCE addresses this challenging topic. We are not only following a trend, but we want to break new ground and provide real customer benefits.
I’m working in a terrific young international and highly motivated team. And I can still learn something new from my colleagues every day: industry design, C# programming, 3D printing, electronics and lots of other fascinating things. What’s also really nice is that everybody around me is interested in Human Centric Lighting and wants to learn from me.
I hope that LEDVANCE and all our colleagues can fully focus on the upcoming tasks and future successes after the numerous changes.
LEDVANCE is a global lighting company that has already come a long way on its path from tradition to innovation, but has to continue along this path to reach its goal.
A modern company with a young international workforce and motivated teams working in an open-minded atmosphere, with all the team members cooperating closely, learning from each other and giving their best.
I imagine LEDVANCE to be an individual that walks on four legs in the morning, on two legs at lunch time and on three legs in the evening – in line with the classical riddle from Greek mythology: A baby that crawls and still has to learn how to walk. A top athlete who has to be extremely fast. But also a fragile old man or woman who needs a crooked stick to bear all the burdens that life imposes.
In the field of HCL, we are just a baby. My job is to help our HCL team to learn how to walk properly, so that we’ll soon be able to join all the other kids who are already running around and playing.
Considering my age, I would already think about the time after my retirement – and my wife would wish that we spend more time together, travel more, plan joint activities, etc. I could well imagine that this would certainly be an option. Pursuing my hobbies, such as photography and playing the guitar, would also be cool.
But as long as I think there is still a lot to explore in order to really understand the biological effect of light on human beings and I can make a major contribution to this, I’m truly happy that HCL is an essential part of my life. When I retire a few years from now, I would like to have the good feeling that I’ve created something new of lasting value. Even though I assume that my previous successes, including the xenon headlight and the HCI ceramic lamps, will not survive the next ten years.

ANNY YANG Meet Anny Yang, Head of Industrialization & Packaging Engineering in Shenzhen, China

My name is Anny Yang, I am the Head of Industrialization & Packaging Engineering in Shenzhen, China. Before joining LEDVANCE I worked for OSRAM and SIEMENS Medical for a couple of years. And before that I was at the French company THOMSON.
May I state that I love all our products? For me every product is like a baby, and we all work together as a team to launch a product. For me, it is just great when all the obstacles have been overcome and we finally can launch the product.
If I had to choose a product, I would choose our smart products. They are really helpful in our daily life. We should continue to develop more and more smart products to lead the industry.
Our world is changing every day, at a rapid pace. The lighting industry is also changing. I look forward to contributing as a team member and manager to the challenges we face every day, and it is also very satisfying to make things happen.
As a mother, I want my daughter to grow up happy.
As a manager, I wish that my team and I can contribute to the development of our company.
As an individual, I wish everybody in my family health, happiness and kindness.
It is difficult to pick one actress. If I had to, I would like the famous Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi to play my life. She is a lady with a smart mind and a strong heart.
Waking up in the morning without an alarm clock, having breakfast with my family and listening to the sweet stories of my beautiful daughter. Spending a lovely afternoon in nature and just having a great time with my family.
